A good dance studio makes learning to dance simple and enjoyable. South Coast Dancesport, with nearly 100 years of experience among its instructors, is such a studio.
This exciting and cutting edge studio trains not only a wide variety of students interested in dance at any level, be it social or competitive, but boasts some of the top professionals in the country whose love for dance is matched only by their commitment to their students’ success. Both Matt Gregory (owner) and his team of teachers at South Coast Dancesport understand that their primary responsibility is to be the voice and the hands (and the feet!) necessary to guide their students to the happiness and fulfillment that dancing so remarkably provides.
Let us introduce you to our friendly and welcoming staff: |

Owner / Instructor
Matt Gregory has been teaching social and competitive ballroom and Latin dance for nearly fifteen years. Matt began his teaching career at a Fred Astaire dance school in Colorado Springs, Colorado and quickly discovered his natural abilities as an instructor and motivator. In 2005, seeking the training of top coaches and the community of world class professionals, he moved to Southern California.
The move allowed Matt to take his teaching to the next level. Consistently one of the top teachers at any school in which he has worked, Matt has trained some of the top amateur men, women and couples in the United States. His many Top Teacher awards include the Emerald Ball in Los Angeles, the Embassy Dancesport Championships in Irvine, CA, the Desert Classic in Palm Springs, the San Francisco Open, and the U.S. Championships in Orlando, FL. Not only has his own teaching led to personal success, but over the years, Matt has had numerous students take top awards at a myriad of competitions nationwide, including several national titles within just the last few years. In 2008, Matt was recognized as one of the top 20 teachers in the United States.
In late 2008, propelled by a desire to provide a distinctive training environment for his students, Matt opened his own ballroom and Latin dance studio, South Coast Dancesport. As South Coast Dancesport has grown, now boasting a full-time staff of six high level professionals and myriad world-class independent teachers, his focus remains that of providing one of the warmest, most inviting studios on the West Coast, if not the United States.

Instructor
At the age of 12, Ryan Crutcher began his dance training, laying a foundation in the classical world of ballet and modern dance. Once introduced to the Swing world, he began to feel his passion truly come into focus. Ryan won the United States Open Swing Dance Championships in 2001 and the World Country Championships in 2002.
Having recognized that the dance floor often proves to be a starting point in helping his students take significant action in their own lives, Ryan is consistently one of the busiest teachers at the studio. It is no small wonder that he seems to always have a ready smile and a willingness to make time for each of his students.
Continuously adding to his dance knowledge, Ryan has studied all types of partner dancing, ballet, modern, hip-hop and jazz. He has made guest dance appearances on the hit television show ‘Cold Case’ and appeared in a music video by the Jonas Brothers. Being a part of live performances has always been particularly thrilling for Ryan. Constantly on the lookout for new challenges, Ryan has dedicated himself to becoming a diverse and innovative dancer and choreographer. His love of dance drives his desire to hone his skills as he works to become one of the top instructors and performers in the nation.

Instructor
Ekaterina (Katya) Marshukova is a professional with nearly twenty years of experience in the dance industry. She currently competes worldwide in the International Standard dance division, yet teaches all of the different dance styles. At the age of 18, Katya left her native Russia to pursue a dance career in France. She competed in the Latin category until the age of 19, when she developed a passion for the Standard category and began competing. While in France, Katya attended Sorbonne University. From there, she began competing in the United States.
Katya has received many awards and accolades in the International Standard dance category. She is a 3-time French national champion, 2-time Bulgarian national champion, a finalist in the Asian Open, a semi-finalist in the European championships and a quarter-finalist in the World championships. In addition, Katya has performed in many dance and television shows in France.
Impressive as her competitive titles are, what truly sets Katya apart is her ability to communicate information clearly and creatively. Her students regularly attend and place well at ballroom competitions, yet they are also among the most enjoyable partners on the social dance floor, as well.

Instructor
Philip began his ballroom training and even started competing at twelve years old. By the age of 17, he had become the United States Pro/Am Junior Latin Champion. At 18, he became the United States Standard Pro/Am Adult Champion. In the Amateur ranks he was a finalist in all major national competitions. Later, as a professional, Philip was ranked in the top 24 in the United States. Most notable to Philip are the following competitions: the Holiday Dance Classic (he was the Professional Rising Star Latin champion) and the Ohio Star Ball (a Professional Rising Star Latin finalist). Also of note, as a Pro/Am teacher, Philip was ranked third in the United States as Top Teacher in 2007.
For Philip, the opportunity to help others gain the knowledge that has taken him the better part of his life to gain is probably the greatest joy of his career. As he helps his students go through the (sometimes) awkward early stages of dancing, he knows that his students' patience with themselves simply gives them a greater appreciation for their future successes

Justina has loved dancing since she could walk; a passion passed down from her mother and grandparents. At age 5, she began her formal training in ballet, which extended for 7 years. By age 16, Justina found ballroom dancing and instantly knew it was the style for her. In addition to her ballroom pursuits, Justina has also been trained in both jazz and African dance styles. As an amateur, Justina consistently was a finalist or champion in the Rhythm and Latin divisions at competitions throughout the United States.
Justina recently graduated from Cal State University Long Beach with an English/Creative Writing degree. Understanding that her true joy is found on the dance floor, she has expanded her passion for dance to include teaching and competing professionally. Her full-time attention is now directed towards teaching and sharing her enthusiasm for movement and music with her students.

Instructor
Though always athletically inclined, and with years of experience in competitive and show horseback riding, Liza’s dance experience originated with ballroom dancing. Immediately falling in love with the style, she came to adore all that it offered: the fun of social dancing, the contagious energy of a studio, as well as the serious, competitive skill levels that were available. Liza’s training began in the American styles of ballroom (though she has since trained extensively in the International Standard and Latin styles, as well). It wasn’t long before she developed a passion for competition, winning in the pro/am division at numerous competitions, such as the San Diego Dancesport Championships, the California Star Ball, and the San Francisco Open, to name a few.
Before long, Liza knew she wanted to share her knowledge of and passion for dancing with others and began her professional teaching career in Los Angeles. Her love for ballroom dance blossomed further as she continued her own training and began competing on the professional circuit. This ensured that she, too, was always learning and becoming a better instructor for her students.
She has competed professionally in both the American Rhythm and Smooth divisions, as well as West Coast Swing (recently placing as a Finalist in the prestigious SwingDiego Dance Championships). Now proudly a part of the amazing dance team at South Coast Dancesport, Liza continues to develop her skills as a teacher which, for her, is the most rewarding part of dancing.

Instructor
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Tyler moved to Southern California several years ago to further his knowledge of dance and pursue his love of ballroom and Latin. Tyler spent the majority of his youth focusing his energy on the arts: he excelled at painting, singing, and acting. Tyler was inspired to add dance to his repertoire at the age of 9, after watching a documentary about Bob Fosse. Throughout Tyler’s adolescence he studied many different styles of dance, including hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, and various ethnic styles. When Tyler was a senior in high school he began to train as a ballroom dance professional. Once he had a taste of the classic elegance of the Standard and Smooth dances, and combined that with the fiery passion of the Latin and Rhythm dances, he was HOOKED!
Tyler is currently working towards his goal of becoming one of the top competitors in the American Smooth category. Dedicated to the progress of his students, Tyler is committed to giving quality instruction with an emphasis on choreography. He is very excited to bring his experience in all styles and his natural enthusiasm to the South Coast Dancesport team.

Executive Assistant
Cambrey started dancing at 6 years old in a suburb of Los Angeles and has been trained in ballet, contemporary jazz, and hip-hop. She relocated to Orange County to attend UC Irvine. While in school Cambrey became an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women where she gained valuable experience in planning philanthropic events, marketing, and developing her organizational skills. Cambrey recently graduated with a major in Psychology and Social Behavior and a minor in Education.
During her time at UCI she was also given the opportunity to choreograph for the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. As a direct result of her role as lead choreographer, Cambrey came to realize that she wanted to actively pursue a career in the performing arts, with a focus on dance. She is excited to become increasingly versatile in the styles of dance she already knows and is looking forward to learning more about ballroom and Latin dance! Cambrey’s motivation to hone her skills in the administrative aspects of business as well as her passion for dance make her a great asset to South Coast Dancesport, as owner Matt Gregory’s Executive Assistant.

Office Manager
Tera Davis brings over 10 years of office management and administrative experience to South Coast Dancesport in her role as the studio's Office Manager. She has an extensive background in the financial services industry, making her a great fit to handle all of the studio's operational needs. She may handle all of the “behind the scenes” details, but she's the first smiling face to greet you as you walk through the door.
Tera recently made a bold leap from the corporate world to the dance world. Feeling unfulfilled after 10 years spent in an office she knew she was ready for a change – a change that would compliment not only her personality, but her passion for creativity and her long term ambitions as well.
“I feel so blessed to be able to call South Coast Dancesport my home. The instructors and clients are all amazing people who inspire me on a daily basis. I enjoy watching their progress and ultimately seeing their goals come to fruition.”
